A young man has died from injuries sustained in renewed tribal confrontations in the Kharif district, southeast of Amran Governorate in northern Yemen. Tribal sources reported that armed groups from the "Harash" tribe attacked the village of "Shabira" on Saturday evening. The attack was reportedly a retaliation for the killing of Sheikh Jubran Hazam Zafaran Harash and his son Nasr, who were ambushed on the main road in the Rida district on Friday, stemming from a blood feud dispute. The sources further explained that armed clashes erupted between combatants from the "Al-Shabira" and "Al-Harash" families following the attack. During these confrontations, Ali Mohammed Harash was injured and later succumbed to his wounds. Tribal mediators intervened to de-escalate the situation and successfully brokered a 40-day truce. As part of this agreement, the individual accused of the initial killing, along with others, were handed over as hostages to Houthi authorities pending the resolution of the conflict. Allegations have surfaced that leaders within the Houthi group are exacerbating these tribal disputes. The Amran Governorate is experiencing a widespread prevalence of blood feuds and tribal conflicts under Houthi control. Observers suggest that these ongoing disputes have contributed to the fragmentation of the social fabric and the weakening of tribal structures in recent years. |
