Militia forces affiliated with the Houthi movement set fire to the home of a tribal leader and a government officer in the Al-Sunaynah neighborhood of Maeen district, northwest of the capital Sanaa, on Tuesday evening. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation among residents. Local sources reported that Houthi elements deliberately ignited the residence belonging to Sheikh Colonel Nasser Talib Naji Al-Salahi and his brothers. The blaze resulted in the complete destruction of the home's furnishings and significant material damage. Sources suggest the act was motivated by retaliation, stemming from the Al-Salahi family's known opposition to the Houthi coup and their prominent role in resistance efforts from the early stages of the conflict. Several family members have since joined the government forces. Colonel Al-Salahi, a prominent figure from the Al Murad tribe in Marib Governorate, holds the rank of colonel in the government forces. He was among the first to resist the Houthi takeover, and his family has made considerable sacrifices throughout the years of war, according to the sources. This incident is part of a continuous series of violations perpetrated by the Houthi militia against its opponents. These violations include targeting homes and confiscating or looting private property, occurring amidst a lack of accountability and ongoing abuses against civilians in areas under their control. |
