A young man was killed by security forces in the Al-Mamdarah area of Aden's Sheikh Othman district on Friday evening, following an alleged exchange of gunfire during an attempted arrest. Local sources reported hearing gunfire in Al-Mamdarah, later identifying the deceased as Marwan Al-Alimi. He was reportedly shot by a security force affiliated with the Al-Mamdarah police and his body was transferred to Al-Jumhuriyah Hospital in the Khormaksar district. Security forces justified the incident by stating that there were orders to apprehend the young man, amid tensions that prevailed in the area following the event. The Aden Police Department issued a statement indicating that an Al-Mamdarah police unit was carrying out an operation to apprehend a wanted individual based on a coercive arrest warrant issued by the competent prosecution. According to the police statement, the suspect initiated the shooting towards the security personnel, prompting a response. The clash resulted in the suspect sustaining injuries, after which he was transported to the hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his wounds. The police further stated that the deceased was accused in a case of attempted murder, allegedly having shot and seriously injured a citizen, who is currently receiving medical treatment. This incident follows a similar fatal shooting in the Dar Saad district days prior, raising concerns among the public regarding the recurrence of such deaths during security operations in Aden's districts. |
