Health authorities in Yemen's Hadramout Governorate have reported hundreds of confirmed and suspected cases of measles and dengue fever in coastal districts since the beginning of the year, including four fatalities attributed to measles. The Epidemiological Surveillance Department of the Ministry of Health Office in Hadramout Coast stated in a release that the total number of confirmed cases recorded between January 1 and May 5 reached 247. This figure includes 226 measles infections and 21 cases of dengue fever. The statement further indicated that suspected measles cases have risen to 2,301, distributed across several coastal districts. Al-Mukalla city reported the highest number with 856 cases, followed by Ash-Shihr with 305, Ad-Dis with 304, and Ghail Ba Wazir with 255. Dawan district recorded 169 suspected cases. Suspected cases were also reported in Hajr (85 cases), Brom Mifa' (79 cases), Al-Mukalla Countryside (74 cases), Ghail Bin Yamin (57 cases), and Ar-Rida and Qusay'er (52 cases), alongside scattered cases in Wadhia, Ad-Dhali'a, and Yab'ath. Regarding dengue fever, the report detailed 285 suspected cases, with the majority concentrated in Al-Mukalla (172 cases). Brom Mifa' and Ash-Shihr districts each reported 39 cases, with the remaining cases spread across other districts. Health officials confirmed four deaths associated with the measles virus, with two occurring in Al-Mukalla and one each in Ad-Dis and Ghail Ba Wazir. The data revealed that 88% of those infected with measles had not received any vaccinations, highlighting low immunization rates and increased risk of disease spread. Despite the outbreak, the recovery rate among suspected cases was reported at 99%. |
