Aden Celebrates Abd al-Qadir al-Baraduni as Arab Poetry Day Icon

Aden, the interim capital, concluded a national seminar honoring the late poet and thinker Abd al-Qadir al-Baraduni under the slogan "Restoring Cultural Icons Amidst Current Challenges." The event, organized by the Yemeni National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science (UNESCO) in collaboration with the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), marked a significant cultural commemoration.

Over two days, the seminar transformed into an intellectual forum featuring 25 researchers and academics. They engaged in discussions analyzing al-Baraduni's literary experience, portraying it as a comprehensive critical project that transcended classical poetry to address the core of identity, politics, and society. This event coincided with al-Baraduni's selection as the honoree for the twelfth Arab Poetry Day, a decision stemming from recommendations made at the Conference of Officials Responsible for Cultural Affairs in the Arab World.

Research presentations emphasized that honoring al-Baraduni in Aden is not merely a remembrance of a departed poet but an endeavor to interpret his texts, which retain a profound capacity to "deconstruct" the complex Yemeni reality. Dr. Hafiza Saleh Al-Sheikh, Secretary-General of the National Commission, highlighted that reviving al-Baraduni's voice signifies a restoration of deep humanistic values. She asserted that preserving this legacy necessitates national and Arab integration to ensure its presence on the international cultural stage.

Dr. Al-Mustafa Al-Hammadi explained that dedicating this year's Arab Poetry Day to al-Baraduni reflects a renewed Arab recognition of his stature as a pillar of modernity. He noted that the seminar's proceedings will culminate in the publication of a peer-reviewed scientific booklet containing the presented research papers, serving as a reference for scholars in literary and critical studies.

The seminar program included in-depth critical sessions focusing on the symbolic and biographical dimensions of how al-Baraduni, despite his blindness, possessed a vision that penetrated the depths of history. Discussions also explored his unique modern language, a blend of linguistic authenticity and contemporary perspective, as well as his political role as a "national conscience" and his foresight in anticipating societal transformations.
