Yemen's Masam Project Removes Over 5,000 Mines and Munitions in July

Yemen's Masam demining project announced the removal of 5,653 mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices between July 1st and July 24th, as part of its ongoing efforts to clear Yemeni territories and protect civilians.

The project stated that the total number of items removed included 5,246 pieces of unexploded ordnance, 310 anti-tank mines, 72 anti-personnel mines, and 25 improvised explosive devices. During the same period, Masam's field teams successfully cleared 1,323,226 square meters of Yemeni land, contributing to the restoration of safe usage and the reduction of risks to civilian lives.

In its fourth weekly report for July, the project detailed the removal of 1,367 mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices, comprising 1,275 unexploded ordnance, 73 anti-tank mines, 13 anti-personnel mines, and 6 improvised explosive devices. An area of 320,404 square meters was also cleared during that week.

The statement highlighted the continued demining operations in the Midi district of Hajjah Governorate, where a total of 10,994 mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices have been removed since the project's inception in the district. The cleared area in Midi exceeds 4,062,269 square meters.

Masam continues its operations across several Yemeni governorates with the objective of eradicating mines and unexploded ordnance left by the conflict. These efforts aim to mitigate the threats to civilian lives, facilitate the return of displaced populations, and enable the resumption of agricultural and developmental activities.
