Official statistics from Marib province in eastern Yemen reveal approximately 1,500 measles infections and 10 fatalities since the beginning of the current year. During a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the epidemiological situation in the province, the Marib Health Office reported 1,494 suspected cases of measles since January 1, 2026. Of these, 264 cases have been confirmed by laboratory tests, resulting in 10 deaths. The meeting recommended continued efforts to strengthen epidemiological surveillance and rapid response mechanisms. Participants also emphasized the importance of reaching children who have missed vaccinations, conducting community awareness campaigns to highlight the significance of immunization, and increasing vaccination rates to curb the spread of the disease and protect children from its complications. According to data from the Ministry of Health, Marib province is among the most affected by measles in liberated Yemeni governorates. Last year, the province recorded 2,380 measles cases and 22 deaths from the virus. |
