Prisoner Mohammed Ali Al-Khoulani has died in the central prison in Ibb, sparking outrage and suspicions surrounding the circumstances of his death just as judicial proceedings were nearing conclusion. Al-Khoulani had been held for approximately 14 years following a complex criminal case.

Local human rights sources indicate that the case dates back to years prior, following the murder of Al-Khoulani's sister. At that time, security authorities released individuals suspected of the crime, who later died. Subsequently, Al-Khoulani was arrested and accused of orchestrating their deaths. He remained in detention for over a decade and a half without a definitive judicial ruling or conclusive forensic evidence to justify his continued imprisonment.

Human rights advocates have held the director of the Ibb central prison, Houthi official Anwar Al-Mutawakel, legally and security responsible for the safety of inmates. They are calling for an impartial and transparent investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances of the death and identify those involved. The militia is reportedly justifying Al-Khoulani's death as execution pursuant to a court order.

In a related development, parties close to the victim's family have directly accused Houthi leader Mohammed Darham Al-Ghazali, who claims to be the director of the governorate's education office and a primary figure in the case, of involvement in planning and facilitating Al-Khoulani's liquidation. Sources report that Al-Ghazali exploited his administrative and security influence to seize properties and assets belonging to parties in the dispute, exerting pressure that led to security decisions and measures expediting Al-Khoulani's execution under the guise of enforcing a death sentence that lacked procedural legitimacy and constitutional conditions.

Human rights organizations and independent figures have demanded the disclosure of medical and forensic reports pertaining to incidents within the central prison. They also seek the announcement of the judicial basis and evidence upon which the judiciary, under militia control, made its decisions regarding Al-Khoulani. These organizations emphasize that guarantees of a fair trial and the protection of prisoners are legal obligations that do not expire with time.
