Eritrean authorities released 15 Yemeni fishermen from the Al-Khawkhah district of Hodeidah province on Friday, following nearly three months of detention. The fishermen were apprehended while on a fishing trip in the Red Sea's territorial waters.

The released fishermen have reportedly departed Eritrea and are en route to Al-Khawkhah district, having completed all release procedures.

Sources indicated that the release was facilitated through mediation efforts undertaken by Yemeni fishermen's elders, which successfully secured their freedom.

The fishermen had embarked on their routine journey from the coast of Al-Khawkhah on April 12th aboard a fishing vessel. Contact was lost shortly thereafter, and it was later confirmed that they were being held by Eritrean authorities.

Recent years have seen a rise in incidents involving the detention of Yemeni fishermen while engaged in their work in the Red Sea. This trend highlights sporadic attacks on fishing boats, including detentions carried out by Eritrean authorities and other nations bordering the Red Sea.
