A recent United Nations report reveals a new wave of displacement in Yemen, affecting dozens of families in the past week amidst deteriorating humanitarian conditions across several governorates.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in its weekly report released Monday, stated that its Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) recorded 24 families, comprising 144 individuals, displaced between May 3 and May 9.

The organization specified that the displacement originated from the governorates of Hodeidah, Ibb, and Raymah, driven by worsening living conditions and security concerns. The majority of these displaced families, 22 families, settled in Marib Governorate, while two families sought refuge in other areas within Hodeidah Governorate.

The UN organization indicated that the total number of displaced families across Yemen has risen to 961 families, equivalent to 5,766 individuals, from January 1 to May 9, 2026. This underscores the ongoing trend of internal displacement as economic and humanitarian challenges intensify in the country.

This increase in displaced populations comes at a time when host communities are experiencing significant strain on essential services and livelihood opportunities. UN warnings highlight the potential for further deterioration of the humanitarian situation without urgent measures to support affected families.
