Health officials and local sources in Al Dhale'e, central Yemen, have reported a significant increase in cases exhibiting symptoms consistent with Chikungunya fever, locally known as "Al-Mukrfas" or "Abu Al-Rukab," following the Eid al-Adha holiday.

Medical sources informed Akhbar Agency that clinics and pharmacies in the city have received dozens of patients since Thursday, May 28th. These patients presented with high fever, severe joint and muscle pain, headaches, and general fatigue, all of which align with the clinical indicators of the mosquito-borne illness.

The sources suggest that the outbreak may be linked to the accumulation of sacrificial waste and household refuse in several residential areas during the Eid period, creating an ideal environment for mosquito breeding.

The majority of recorded cases have been concentrated in the Al-Arshi, Nasham, and Old City neighborhoods. Local reports also indicate the emergence of unconfirmed cases in the Al-Hudood and Al-Jalila areas on the outskirts of the city. One affected resident, Ahmed Saleh, described a sudden onset of fever accompanied by intense joint and muscle pain and severe headache, noting that similar symptoms appeared among his family and relatives over a short period, fueling concerns of a widespread infection.

Medical sources confirmed that health centers, private clinics, and pharmacies have treated multiple patients with identical symptoms, including skin rash and extreme fatigue, which are consistent with Chikungunya fever. Chikungunya is a viral infection transmitted to humans through the bites of infected mosquitoes, characterized by fever and severe joint pain that can persist for extended periods. The disease is locally recognized as "Al-Mukrfas" or "Abu Al-Rukab" due to its direct impact on the mobility and walking ability of those affected.

Authorities and the local health office have been urged to implement immediate measures to curb the spread of the disease. These include the removal of accumulated waste from the city and widespread spraying campaigns to combat mosquitoes, particularly in affected neighborhoods. There is a warning that the outbreak could extend to neighboring areas and villages as summer approaches, with rising temperatures potentially accelerating mosquito proliferation and exacerbating the epidemiological situation if swift preventive actions are not taken.
