Measles cases and fatalities have seen a significant increase in April across governorates under the control of Yemen's internationally recognized government. Taysir Al-Samai, an official in health media at the Health Office in Taiz Governorate, reported a rise in both infections and deaths attributed to the measles outbreak in these liberated areas during the current month. Al-Samai detailed in a Facebook post that April recorded 15 deaths and 1,541 new infections. This brings the total number of deaths since the beginning of the year to 36, with cumulative cases reaching 7,141. He urged parents to promptly vaccinate their children, particularly those who have not received the vaccine or have not completed their immunization schedules. Al-Samai emphasized that available data indicates the majority of fatalities are among unvaccinated children. Official reports from the previous year documented 16,360 measles cases and 106 deaths among children in areas under the Yemeni government's authority. |
