An inmate has died at the central prison in Ibb Governorate, which is under Houthi militia control, reportedly due to medical neglect and a lack of adequate healthcare. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the deceased, identified as Musa Saleh Mohammed Al-Jabri, had been suffering from intestinal and stomach ailments. He passed away after approximately a year of suffering, as the prison administration allegedly refused to transfer him for treatment or provide necessary medical care. He was also reportedly deprived of essential medication and nutrition suited to his condition. The sources indicated that Al-Jabri's health deteriorated significantly in the days leading up to his death. Despite pleas from fellow inmates urging his immediate medical attention, the prison administration allegedly disregarded these appeals, exacerbating his suffering to a critical stage. According to the sources, Al-Jabri was transferred to the hospital in the final moments of his life in an extremely critical condition. However, the on-call physician confirmed his death before arrival. This late transfer is believed by some to be an attempt by the prison administration to evade responsibility and claim they had provided medical assistance. Al-Jabri hailed from the village of Al-Manzil in the Al-Fajra district of the Al-Nadra directorate, east of Ibb Governorate. He was reportedly detained following a dispute with other individuals. His death adds to a growing record of alleged violations within Houthi-controlled detention facilities, where dozens of detainees have reportedly died due to neglect and torture in both official and secret prisons. |
