An 82-year-old man sustained critical injuries on Sunday after being targeted by Houthi militia snipers stationed in the eastern outskirts of Taiz city, southwest Yemen. Local sources reported that Saeed Hazza Yousef was directly struck by a Houthi sniper positioned at the "Central Security" camp as he exited his home in the Barid Al-Rawda neighborhood. Eyewitnesses described the elderly man collapsing in the street, bleeding and unconscious, before being discovered by a group of female students en route to school. They alerted residents, and Mr. Yousef was promptly transported to Al-Thawra General Hospital. Medical sources confirmed that Mr. Yousef's condition is "extremely critical," and he remains under intensive care due to the severity of his wounds. This incident is part of an ongoing pattern of violations targeting civilians in Taiz. Hundreds of casualties have occurred in recent years from Houthi sniper fire. The militia's presence on strategic hills and buildings surrounding the city has transformed residential areas into zones of constant danger, threatening the lives of pedestrians, children, and the elderly. |
