Child Dies After Falling Into Unsecured Well Amid Severe Water Scarcity

A 12-year-old girl tragically died after falling into an unsecured, manually dug well in the Washah district of Hajjah Governorate on Friday, February 13, 2026, according to local sources.

The deceased was identified as Tawakkol Najd Ali Mabhouth Al-Obaidi. The fatal incident occurred in the Beit Al-Obaidi area within the district, where residents are desperately searching for water amidst a severe drought gripping the area and Hujur regions generally, a crisis exacerbated by the absence of public services under the Houthi militia's control.

High-altitude villages in the northern part of the governorate are experiencing extreme scarcity of water sources. This forces inhabitants, including women and children, to traverse long distances over treacherous terrain to reach open and dangerous wells and water sources in their search for sustenance.
