Violent confrontations erupted in the streets of Rada'a city, Al-Bayda Governorate, on Saturday evening, as residents of the "Al-Hofra neighborhood" engaged in fierce fighting with Houthi militia elements following the summary execution of a young man identified as Abdullah Hassan Al-Halimi. Eyewitnesses reported that militia operatives, reportedly led by an individual named "Abu Saleh Al-Riyami," ambushed Al-Halimi in the "Souq Al-Haraj" (Auction Market) and killed him in cold blood. This incident immediately triggered widespread tribal outrage. The resulting clashes quickly spread to the main thoroughfare and the vicinity of "Tayyibah Hospital," where heavy gunfire and explosions were reported between the residents and the militia forces. This exchange of fire led to the serious injury of a young man named Abdullah Al-Zailai. The killing of the younger Al-Halimi compounds a tragedy that began nine months prior, when the militia assassinated his father, Sheikh Abdullah Hassan Al-Halimi, last July during a military campaign targeting the Al-Hofra neighborhood in Rada'a. The Al-Hofra neighborhood continues to bear a heavy cost in blood and freedom, with dozens of its residents detained in militia prisons for months without legal justification. Observers suggest that the residents’ resort to armed resistance signifies that popular tension has reached its zenith, fueled by the militia’s policy of systematic liquidation targeting tribal leaders in Rada'a and its persistent attempts to break the resolve of the Al-Hofra community through murder and abduction. |
