Taiz Governorate endured a brutal 24-hour period on Saturday, October 3, 2026, marked by 61 direct violations attributed to Houthi militias. These acts, targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, underscore the militia's continued commitment to a policy of extermination and forced displacement, demonstrating a blatant disregard for international humanitarian law.

Urgent documentation from the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms, corroborated by field reports from the Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights, revealed a heavy toll on civilians. Houthi snipers and indiscriminate shelling resulted in the deaths of five civilians, including women and an infant. An additional 22 civilians were injured, among them seven women and six children, indicating a deliberate targeting of vulnerable populations.

The violence extended to civilian property, with 21 residential homes damaged by artillery fire and 12 civilian vehicles destroyed. In a particularly egregious act, rights monitors documented a summary execution in the Samie district. A citizen was killed inside his home in front of his family after refusing militia attempts to occupy his residence and use it for military positioning, highlighting the transformation of civilian homes into targets.

On the ground, intense Houthi artillery shelling concentrated on densely populated residential areas in northern and western Taiz, near the fronts of Jabal Han, Haran, and Air Defense. This caused infrastructure and home destruction, instilling widespread fear. Simultaneously, villages in the rural areas of Al-Aqrosh, Al-Shaqab, and Hayfan were subjected to mortar fire. The militia also deployed attack and suicide drones towards populated areas, but government air defenses successfully intercepted three drones over Jabal Habashi district.

The catastrophic consequences extended to essential services. Reports indicate the militarization of schools and educational facilities for forced recruitment of children. The escalation and road blockades triggered a new wave of displacement. Furthermore, 26 health facilities in the Taiz-Hodeidah confrontation zones were rendered inoperable due to direct shelling and the obstruction of medical supplies, threatening a severe health crisis for thousands of patients and pregnant women.

Human rights organizations and relevant ministries have classified the events in Taiz as war crimes and crimes against humanity, citing violations of the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law. These acts, including the targeting of civilian objects, summary executions, and the militarization of vital facilities, necessitate immediate international attention and accountability for the Houthi militia's ongoing brutalization of approximately five million civilians trapped in Taiz.
