The United Kingdom has strongly condemned the recent escalation by Houthi militias in the Taiz Governorate, warning that continued attacks threaten civilian lives and could trigger new waves of displacement and exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Yemen. Minister for the Middle East, Stephen Doughty, stated on the UK's Mission to Yemen's X platform that the escalation and violence perpetrated by the Houthi militias are reigniting the conflict in Yemen, resulting in casualties, the displacement of new families, and intensified human suffering. Doughty affirmed his country's continued support for the internationally recognized Yemeni government. He emphasized the UK's alignment with efforts aimed at achieving a lasting and comprehensive peace in Yemen and ending the conflict, which has had severe repercussions on the lives of millions of Yemenis. The British official stressed that the ongoing military escalation worsens the humanitarian situation and jeopardizes prospects for a political settlement. He called for an end to the violence to allow space for peace initiatives designed to halt the war and alleviate civilian suffering. |
