Militiamen affiliated with the Houthi group have reportedly emptied and looted the "Ma'wahum Rahma" residential city, constructed by Kuwait to house displaced persons in Al-Khawkhah, west of Yemen. Local activists circulated a video documenting the city's abandonment after Houthi forces expelled its residents and seized their belongings. The footage depicts the "Ma'wahum Rahma" city, located south of the Al-Khawkhah district. This project was initiated by Kuwait in 2020 with its funding, aiming to provide housing for approximately 260 families displaced by the conflict. The region was liberated by joint forces in late 2018. Activists stated that the Iran-backed Houthi militia compelled residents to vacate the city before looting their possessions. Reports indicate that the militia also seized solar power systems that supplied electricity to the residences, water wells, and mosques. The scenes, shared on Monday, showed the city's buildings and residential facilities completely devoid of inhabitants. Before the Houthi group's recent recapture of areas in Hodeidah Governorate at the beginning of September, liberated territories hosted a significant number of displaced individuals fleeing years of fighting. Numerous residential complexes and humanitarian projects along the western coast rely on support from regional and international entities. |
