Rights Network Documents 278 Houthi Abductions Over September 26th Revolution Anniversary

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has documented 278 abduction cases attributed to Houthi militias in recent days across several Yemeni governorates, reportedly linked to celebrations or preparations for the 64th anniversary of the September 26th Revolution.

In a recent human rights report, the network stated that Houthi militias carried out abduction and pursuit campaigns against citizens for expressing national affiliation and celebrating the anniversary of the revolution. These campaigns were concentrated in Sana'a, the capital, and the governorates of Hajjah, Amran, Dhamar, Ibb, Sa'dah, Al Mahwit, and Al Hudaydah.

The report detailed that the abductions occurred in various locations, including public roads, homes, mosques, and markets. It noted that militia elements, during some of these operations, restrained victims, confiscated their phones and official documents, before taking them to undisclosed detention sites.

The network indicated that the extensive arrest campaigns accompanying the September 26th Revolution anniversary reflect, in its assessment, an escalation against citizens due to their stances rejecting the Imamate ideology and the Houthi project. It considered the targeting of those celebrating or preparing to celebrate the occasion a violation of public rights and freedoms.

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms holds the Houthi militia fully responsible for the safety and fate of the abductees. It called on international organizations and human rights bodies to take urgent action to reveal their detention locations, work towards their release, and pressure for an end to abduction campaigns and violations associated with the commemoration of national events in areas under militia control.
