Yemeni Diaspora in New York Commemorates 64th Anniversary of September 26th Revolution

The Yemeni community in New York State convened on Friday to commemorate the 64th anniversary of the September 26th Revolution, in a national event attended by members of the diaspora and several officials and dignitaries from the state.

Participants at the celebration reflected on the historical significance of the September 26th Revolution, recognizing its pivotal role in steering Yemen towards a republican system and the establishment of state institutions. They emphasized the importance of preserving its principles and reinforcing their presence in the consciousness of Yemeni generations, both domestically and abroad.

In an address during the event, Counselor Aziz Mohammed Abdo Zeid, advisor to the Minister of State and Governor of the Capital for Human Rights Affairs, stated that the September 26th Revolution marked a fundamental turning point in the history of Yemenis, laying the foundation for a political and social trajectory based on the concept of the state and the republican system.

Zeid stressed the commitment of Yemenis to the revolution's principles and republican values, asserting that Yemen's future is intrinsically linked to building a state founded on institutions, law, and citizenship. He declared, "There is no return to imamate, backwardness, and ignorance; yes to the state and institutions, yes to the law, and yes to a future befitting Yemen and Yemenis."

He further noted that commemorating the revolution's anniversary is not merely about recalling historical events but serves as an occasion to renew commitment to the principles of the state, citizenship, and the rule of law. It also aims to strengthen the unity of Yemenis, both at home and abroad, and to preserve national identity while transmitting republican values to new generations.

Zeid highlighted the significant role played by the Yemeni diaspora in preserving national memory and educating emerging generations about their country's history and its struggles for statehood and the republic, thereby strengthening their connection to Yemen and its national identity.
