Fuel Station Worker Killed in Sana'a Confrontation Over Unpaid Fuel

A young fuel station attendant, Sami Abdelkhaleq Muftah, has died in Sana'a after attempting to prevent a driver from fleeing without paying for fuel, sparking widespread anger and demands for a swift investigation and justice.

Local sources reported that the incident occurred at a fuel station on Taiz Street in Sana'a. A driver of a Lexus vehicle reportedly filled his car with 30,000 Yemeni Riyals worth of fuel and then attempted to leave the station without settling the bill.

According to the sources, Muftah tried to stop the driver and demand payment. As the car sped away, Muftah clung to the vehicle. The driver then proceeded to accelerate rapidly and swerve erratically, causing Muftah to fall and sustain fatal injuries.

Witnesses, including citizens and motorcyclists, pursued the car and apprehended the driver, subsequently handing him over to the relevant security authorities. Muftah's body has been placed in the morgue of 48 Hospital in Sana'a, and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway.

The tragedy has generated significant reaction on social media, particularly as reports from those close to Muftah indicate he was a university graduate who worked at the station to earn a livelihood. Activists are urging the judiciary to expedite the case, issue a fair and deterrent sentence, and ensure that no tribal or social pressures influence the proceedings.

Concerned parties are also calling on the authorities to disclose all details surrounding the incident, establish legal accountability, and announce the investigation's findings to the public to ensure justice for Muftah's family.
