Approximately 300 individuals, comprising 50 Yemeni families, have been displaced to different governorates within a single week due to ongoing conflict and deteriorating security and economic conditions, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The IOM reported in a recent assessment that its teams monitored this displacement movement between August 2nd and August 8th, 2026. The organization indicated that Marib Governorate received the largest number of displaced families. Data reveals that 20 families arrived in Marib, while 14 families were displaced to Taiz. An additional 15 families sought refuge in the governorates of Lahj and Shabwah, with one family settling in Hodeidah. The organization attributed 74% of these displacement cases to concerns related to security and safety, escalating conflict, and economic pressures. Natural disasters accounted for 24% of the cases, while health-related reasons constituted the remaining 2%. This recent wave of displacement raises the total number of families monitored by the IOM as displaced in Yemen since the beginning of the year to 1,742 families, encompassing approximately 10,452 individuals. The majority of these have settled in Marib Governorate. Marib Governorate hosts a significant number of internally displaced persons who have fled conflict-affected areas, placing increasing pressure on essential services, infrastructure, and local resources within the governorate. |
