The Director-General of Mokha Port, Dr. Abdulmalik Al-Sharabi, stated that the missile shelling by the Houthi militia targeting the port aims to destroy its quay and completely disrupt maritime navigation. Al-Sharabi explained in press statements that the missiles targeted the quay where an excavator was operating to deepen the navigation channel. He described this as a clear attempt to impede its operations, submerge it, and damage its equipment. Al-Sharabi emphasized that targeting the port, a vital facility, constitutes "a complete crime and a flagrant violation of international laws and conventions." He indicated that the competent authorities will immediately begin assessing the damage resulting from the attack and determining the extent of the losses incurred by the port and its facilities. Previously, Al-Sharabi had warned of the severe humanitarian repercussions of targeting the port, stressing that disrupting its operations cuts off the livelihoods of its workers and threatens to displace over 1,300 Yemeni families who depend entirely on the port for their sustenance. |
