Taiz Teachers Union Warns of Academic Year Disruption Over Unpaid Dues

The Yemeni Teachers Union in Taiz Governorate has issued a stark warning that the continued denial of financial entitlements to over 10,000 educators threatens severe repercussions for the educational process as the 2026-2027 academic year approaches. The union is urgently calling for governmental intervention to address the grievances of those affected.

In a memorandum addressed to the Director of the Education Office in Taiz, the union highlighted that more than 10,000 teachers and educational staff will be excluded from benefiting from Cabinet Resolution No. (14) of 2026. This resolution pertains to the disbursement of annual increments and a 20% increase in the cost-of-living allowance. The exclusion stems from ongoing issues with the processing of their employment and financial matters.

The union detailed that among the affected are 5,109 teachers who were transferred to the General Authority for Pensions and Social Security without their consent, despite continuing their work in the field. This situation has resulted in them being deprived of annual increments for the years 2021-2025. Furthermore, 1,337 teachers have been denied supplementary increments following the implementation of previous decisions.

The issue also encompasses 5,623 educational employees appointed in 2011, who remain deprived of their rightful increments for 2012 and 2013, as well as a nature-of-work allowance. This is despite repeated appeals from the union and the education office, and occurs while these entitlements have been disbursed to their counterparts in other governorates.

The union has demanded that these cases be escalated to the highest levels of state and government leadership, urging the swift implementation of solutions to ensure the disbursement of financial dues to the teachers. The union cautioned that the continued disregard for these rights could compel a significant number of educators to leave their posts, thereby negatively impacting the stability of the educational process at the commencement of the new academic year.
