Citizen Killed, Three Injured in Security Officer Shooting in Taiz

A civilian was killed and three others were injured on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, by gunfire from a security officer in the city of Al-Turbah, the center of Al-Shamaytayn district in Taiz Governorate.

Local sources reported that the deceased, identified as Adel Al-A'war, was shot by a security officer named Al-Zir Al-Dhabhani. Al-Dhabhani is reportedly wanted by authorities and is associated with the Director of Security for Al-Turbah, Abdullah Al-Wahbani.

The incident also resulted in injuries to three other civilians who were present at the scene of the shooting, according to the sources.

In response, the Taiz Governorate Police Department announced in a statement that they had apprehended the suspect immediately after the incident. The police confirmed that relevant authorities are continuing their legal procedures to uncover the circumstances and motives behind the event, in preparation for referring the case file and the accused to the competent judicial bodies for appropriate legal action.

This incident recalls the killing of lawyer Abdulrahman Abdulhakim Al-Najashi in late October of the previous year. Al-Najashi was shot by a member of the Al-Shamaytayn police station in front of the old courthouse in the Qat market of Al-Turbah city.

Observers suggest that the recurrence of crimes committed by security elements affiliated with the Islah Party stems from a lack of institutional discipline and adherence to law and order among some of these elements, contributing to the repetition of such incidents.
