Yemeni activist Mohammed Najeeb Al-Sharafi has expressed deep regret over his return to Hodeidah under the Houthi-proclaimed amnesty for returnees, only to find his freedom of movement severely restricted.

Al-Sharafi detailed his situation in a widely circulated video, explaining that despite pledging to the Houthi militia not to rejoin the legitimate government forces and providing a guarantor, he has been placed under de facto house arrest. He is reportedly prevented from leaving Hodeidah and has been denied permission for his planned program.

He recounted an attempt to travel to Aden to obtain a passport, during which he was intercepted and detained at the Jabal Ras checkpoint. Officials informed him that he required security clearance to travel outside Hodeidah. Al-Sharafi stated that his efforts to secure this clearance, including participation in so-called "cultural courses" for returnees, have been unsuccessful.

The activist is involved in producing content for social media platforms focused on assisting displaced individuals, reuniting the elderly, and helping those with mental health issues return to their families. He indicated that the Houthi authorities have requested permits for his work but have consistently obstructed his initiatives, labeling him as a "returnee" and attempting to thwart his efforts.

Al-Sharafi asserted that he regrets returning to Houthi-controlled areas and believes he has the right to travel to any governorate as a Yemeni citizen. He expressed despair over his current predicament and a desire for a resolution to his crisis.
