Emergency teams from the Masam Landmine Clearance Project in Yemen, in coordination with the Executive Center for Mine Action in Mukalla, successfully destroyed 1,354 pieces of mines and war remnants in Mukalla city, Hadramout Governorate, last Wednesday. According to a statement released by the project, the destroyed materials included 63 mortar shells (82mm), 14 anti-personnel mines, and 14 anti-vehicle mines. Additionally, 123 artillery shells (23mm), 37 artillery shells (37mm), 16 hand grenades, 636 rounds (12.7mm), and 356 artillery shell fuses were disposed of. The statement highlighted that this operation marks the eighth of its kind conducted in Hadramout Governorate since mid-January, as part of ongoing efforts to safely dispose of war remnants and mitigate risks to the population. With this latest operation, the total number of mines, explosive devices, and unexploded ordnance destroyed by the project's teams in Hadramout Governorate since January 17 has risen to 15,463 items. The Masam Project affirmed its commitment to continuing its field operations in coordination with relevant authorities, aiming to enhance public safety, protect civilians, and secure areas affected by the remnants of war. |
