A child was killed and another seriously injured by a landmine planted by Houthi militia in the rural district of Nihm, northeast of the capital, Sanaa.

Human rights sources reported that the deceased child, Adam Ali Al-Qalam, was 15 years old. His companion, Ali Ali Jazilan, 13, sustained severe injuries resulting in the amputation of his leg below the knee.

The organization Witness for Human Rights stated in a release that the Houthi mine explosion occurred last Friday morning in the Athibi area, near Al-Na'imat village in the Iyāl Ghafir sub-district of Nihm. The incident happened while the two children were tending sheep for a monthly wage for local residents.

Adam Ali Al-Qalam, originally from the Al-Haima Al-Kharijiya district southwest of Sanaa, died immediately from shrapnel wounds across his body. Ali Ali Jazilan is currently receiving necessary medical treatment and care.

Witness for Human Rights holds the Iran-backed Houthi militia directly and fully responsible for the incident, citing their complete control over the Nihm district since January 2020.
