Yemeni customs authorities, in collaboration with the Supreme Authority for Medicines and security agencies, have thwarted an attempt to smuggle a significant shipment of hazardous chemicals and restricted medicines at the Al-Wadea land port in Hadhramaut Governorate.

Sources indicated that the intercepted shipment comprised 280 kilograms of sodium cyanide, a highly toxic substance classified as a dual-use material subject to strict international control. The substance was concealed within seven sacks.

Additionally, 69,600 tablets of "Solpadeine" medication were discovered hidden inside washing machines, an attempt to camouflage and circumvent customs procedures.

Abdulhaq Lahsan, Director-General of Al-Wadea Customs, stated that the seizure was conducted in accordance with Yemeni law and under the direct supervision of the Chairman of the Customs Authority and the specialized team for dealing with dual-use goods.

He further added that ongoing training and qualification programs have been instrumental in detecting sophisticated concealment methods. Lahsan affirmed the customs' commitment to protecting the community and preventing the smuggling of dangerous materials that threaten public security and health.
