A citizen has died and another sustained severe injuries after being subjected to brutal torture and mistreatment by a group of individuals in the Hamdan district of Sanaa province, an area under Houthi militia control. The alleged reason for the abuse was suspicion of theft.

Local sources reported that a group of approximately ten individuals from the Hamdan district intercepted two men who worked as "qat pickers" several days ago. The victims were identified as Abdulsalam Ali Nasser Al-Sartani, from the Masoor district, and another individual from the Bani Matar district. The group accused the two men of stealing from qat farms and proceeded to tie them up and inflict severe beatings and physical torture for continuous hours.

According to the information received, victim Abdulsalam Al-Sartani succumbed to his critical injuries, which were exacerbated by the alternating beatings he endured. The other victim, from Bani Matar, was transferred to the intensive care unit of a hospital in Sanaa and remains in a critical condition.

The incident has sparked widespread public outrage and anger among activists and citizens, who have condemned the act as an "extrajudicial execution" and highlighted the absence of state institutions and the prevalence of a culture of violence. In an effort to de-escalate the situation and prevent tribal conflict, tribal mediation, accompanied by Hamdan elders, has been initiated to arbitrate between the elders and families of Masoor in an attempt to resolve the issue according to tribal customs.

This crime occurs amidst a recurring pattern of assaults, some resulting in death, based merely on suspicion in areas controlled by the Houthi militia. Observers attribute this to the severe deterioration of living conditions and the collapse of the security and judicial systems, leaving citizens vulnerable to grave violations under flimsy pretexts. The situation reflects the pervasive state of lawlessness in areas under Houthi militia control, where legal frameworks are absent, and "custom" or "the law of the jungle" dictates people's fates.
