Two young brothers sustained injuries on Thursday morning when a landmine, remnants of Houthi militia activity, exploded in the eastern outskirts of Al-Khawkhah district, the interim capital of Al Hudaydah Governorate in western Yemen. Local sources identified the injured as Ahmed Ali Ahmed Massas, 25, and Haroun Abdu Mohammed Massas, 22, residents of the Al-Sa'idiyah Irfan area. The incident occurred as they were traveling to their daily work on a medium-sized truck. The explosion resulted in serious injuries to both individuals, necessitating their immediate transfer for medical treatment. The vehicle they were traveling in also sustained significant material damage, rendering it inoperable. This incident is part of a continuous pattern of violations caused by Houthi-laid minefields impacting residents of coastal areas. These internationally prohibited weapons have caused hundreds of civilian casualties, including fatalities and injuries, over recent years. Furthermore, they have hindered agricultural activities and transportation, transforming vast tracts of vital land into hazardous zones posing a constant threat to innocent lives. |
