Calls are intensifying for the Yemeni branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islah Party, to be designated a terrorist organization, not only as a local affiliate but as an independent entity engaged in transnational terrorism.

Politicians assert that stemming the sources of terrorism in the Middle East must begin in Yemen, arguing that weakening the Islah Party would inevitably cut off crucial human and financial supplies to groups like Al-Qaeda and ISIS. Amidst regional political and military crises, the Islah Party has emerged as a significant security concern. It is now accused of being a breeding ground for extremism in the Arabian Peninsula, providing a lifeline to more radical organizations such as Al-Qaeda and ISIS within its areas of influence.

Observers believe the danger posed by the Islah Party stems from its unique position as the only Brotherhood branch that has not confined itself to political activities but has successfully infiltrated military, security, and educational institutions for decades. This deep penetration has fostered an environment conducive to extremist ideology, with academic institutions and religious centers affiliated with the party reportedly serving as initial incubators for a generation of extremists who later joined transnational terrorist groups, according to security experts.

Areas under the party's control, particularly in Marib and parts of Taiz governorates, are raising alarming international questions. Intelligence reports suggest these regions have become safe havens for elements of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Analysts point to a "revolving door" phenomenon, facilitating the movement of individuals between militias affiliated with the party and Al-Qaeda. In Taiz, movements of individuals classified as terrorists have been observed operating within military brigades aligned with the Islah Party, amid accusations that the party provides logistical and intelligence support to these elements.

Reports also suggest an undeclared coordination between the Islah Party and ISIS cells in Yemen, particularly in complex combat fronts, aimed at confronting anti-Brotherhood forces. This alleged coordination positions areas controlled by the Islah Party as launching pads for threats to international navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab strait, and as a destabilizing factor for neighboring Gulf states. Observers contend that the Islah Party now represents a unique and grave threat to regional and international security, surpassing other Brotherhood branches in the region due to its substantial military arsenal, trained militias comparable to regular armies, and control over resource-rich territories and vital geographic chokepoints.

International concerns are mounting over the party's "dangerous pragmatism" and its ability to leverage terrorism for the coercion of regional and international powers. Its continued existence as a legitimate political player grants legal immunity to its members involved in violent acts, thereby transforming it into a covert driver of instability that threatens the security of crucial global waterways. Politicians emphasize that the threat posed by the Yemeni Brotherhood extends beyond Yemen's borders, possessing territorial control, financial resources, weaponry, and political cover. With mounting evidence linking it to terrorist organizations, international action to designate it as terrorist is deemed an urgent necessity for safeguarding Arab national security and international interests in the region, before Yemen transforms into another "Tora Bora" under the Islah Party's auspices.
