Three girls have died and four women were injured after torrential rains caused flash floods in the Utmah district of Dhamar governorate, south of the capital Sana'a. The incident occurred amidst a recent wave of heavy rainfall across the country.

Local sources reported that the three girls lost their lives on Monday evening when floodwaters swept away a group of women in the Al-Maqrana area of Utmah district. The sources clarified that seven women from the area were caught by the floods. While residents managed to rescue four women, three girls tragically perished in the incident.

The deceased girls have been identified as Jamilah Jamal Naji, Hafizah Awebel Mohammed Awebel, and Zuhour Awebel.

The floods also caused extensive damage to properties, homes, and agricultural lands, in addition to cutting off several local roads within the Utmah district of Dhamar governorate.

A state of grief has enveloped the community in the district, with calls for increased awareness regarding the dangers of flash floods and the necessity of exercising caution, particularly during the rainy seasons.

This tragedy follows closely on the heels of another incident just one day prior, where three boys drowned in a rainwater pool in Sa'dah governorate, northern Yemen. Furthermore, a report released in late March by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the Yemen Red Crescent Society indicated that over 77 people, including children and women, had died or been injured due to floods and rains in various Yemeni governorates.
