A child has tragically died in Taiz due to torrential floods, bringing the total number of child fatalities to three within less than 48 hours. Local sources reported that the victim, 10-year-old Omar Al-Zubaidi, was swept away by floodwaters while passing through the Al-Ramda market. He reportedly fell into a pit as heavy rains poured down, before the current carried him away from the site. Search teams continued their efforts for several hours before the child's body was discovered in the Hawaal Saeed area after the Maghrib prayer. This incident follows two previous child deaths in different parts of the city. It highlights the dangers posed by seasonal floods, which recur with rainfall, exacerbated by deteriorating infrastructure and a lack of safety measures. There are increasing calls for local authorities to implement urgent measures to mitigate such disasters and protect civilian lives, particularly those of children. |
