Egypt has welcomed the announcement of a two-week suspension of military operations in the region, characterizing the move as a significant positive development toward achieving de-escalation and preserving regional and global security and stability. In a statement released early Wednesday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the United States' agreement to suspend military operations and the Iranian side's response present a crucial opportunity that must be seized to pave the way for negotiations, diplomacy, and constructive dialogue. Egypt reiterated its long-standing advocacy for resolving disputes through peaceful means, eschewing the use of force to reduce tensions, end conflict, and achieve regional and international security and stability. The ministry underscored the importance of building upon this step through full commitment to the cessation of military operations and respect for international navigation freedom. Egypt reaffirmed its support for all initiatives aimed at achieving peace and security, pledging to continue its diligent efforts with Pakistan, Turkey, and regional and international partners to foster security and stability in the region. Furthermore, Egypt stressed the paramount importance of respecting the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Gulf Cooperation Council states and neighboring Jordan, condemning any aggression or infringement upon their sovereignty. The statement highlighted that the security and stability of these nations are intrinsically linked to Egypt's own security and stability, asserting that any future arrangements must take into account the legitimate security concerns of the Gulf states. In a related development, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a phone conversation with Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East. Shoukry expressed profound appreciation for this significant American initiative, which provides diplomacy an opportunity and aims to commence a serious negotiation process between the U.S. and Iranian sides. Witkoff, in turn, commended Egypt's sincere efforts with Pakistan and regional partners in advancing ceasefire endeavors and initiating the negotiation process. |
