The Saudi-backed Masam project, dedicated to clearing Yemeni territories of landmines, announced the successful removal of 1,329 explosive devices during the third week of March, planted by the Iran-aligned Houthi militia across several governorates. The project detailed the composition of the ordnance cleared during that specific week, noting that the total included six anti-personnel mines, 200 anti-tank mines, 1,116 unexploded ordnance items, and seven improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Furthermore, the statement indicated that the cumulative total of mines and explosives removed during the entirety of March reached 3,500 units. This recent activity contributes to a significant overall figure since the inception of the Masam project. The total number of explosives cleared since the project's launch has now risen to 549,452. These devices were reportedly sown indiscriminately across various regions, targeting innocent civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, thereby generating widespread fear among the civilian population. |
