The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has declared the Military Attaché of the Iranian Embassy, his deputy, and three other mission staff members as persona non grata, demanding their departure from the Kingdom within 24 hours. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the Kingdom's unequivocal condemnation of what it termed flagrant Iranian aggressions against Saudi Arabia, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, and several other Arab and Islamic nations. A statement from the Ministry emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran's persistent targeting of Saudi Arabia's sovereignty, civilian assets, personnel, economic interests, and diplomatic posts constitutes a clear violation of all relevant international conventions, principles of good neighborliness, respect for state sovereignty, the Beijing Agreement, and UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026). Furthermore, the actions contradict the Islamic fraternity and values constantly professed by the Iranian side, confirming a disconnect between rhetoric and action. The Ministry noted that these continued aggressions signify further escalation, which will have a profound impact on current and future bilateral relations, building upon a previous statement issued on March 9, 2026. The statement confirmed the formal notification to the Military Attaché, the Deputy Military Attaché, and the three mission staff members regarding their expulsion and mandatory departure within the specified 24-hour timeframe. The Kingdom affirmed its unwavering commitment to taking all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its security, and defend its territory, airspace, citizens, residents, resources, and interests, pursuant to Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. |
