A woman and her three children, along with an unborn fetus, died tragically early Friday morning due to a gas leak inside their home in the Yafa district of Lahij Governorate, southern Yemen. Local residents reported that the incident occurred in the village of Arhal, in the Al-Mawaset area, coinciding with the first day of Eid al-Fitr. The family members were discovered deceased inside their residence after they had gone to sleep on the eve of the holiday. Sources indicated that initial assessments suggest a gas heater was left operating while the family slept. This malfunction led to a fatal accumulation of gas within the sealed dwelling, resulting in the immediate deaths of the mother and her children. One local resident noted that the family had been preparing for the Eid celebrations, only for the occasion to turn into a profound tragedy, an event that has caused widespread shock within the local community. Mourning has enveloped the residents of the village and surrounding areas, accompanied by urgent calls for increased vigilance regarding the use of heating appliances in enclosed spaces, particularly during sleeping hours, to prevent similar catastrophic incidents. |
