Street Vendor Killed in Al-Dhale' Market Over Dispute on Extortion Payment

A street vendor was fatally shot in the Al-Sanaah market in Al-Dhale' city on Wednesday, an incident that has provoked widespread shock and condemnation among local residents who are demanding a thorough investigation and accountability for the perpetrators.

Local sources identified the victim as Bashar, a vendor specializing in fireworks and vegetables, who hailed from the Fara' al-Aden district in Ibb Governorate. He was reportedly shot by an armed individual in the Al-Sanaah market late Wednesday afternoon, resulting in his immediate death.

According to the sources, the fatal confrontation arose from a dispute over the payment of an alleged levy or extortion fee. The vendor reportedly refused to comply with the demand for the payment, escalating the situation rapidly into gunfire within the crowded marketplace.

The victim was described as a humble itinerant vendor who had traveled to Al-Dhale' seeking sustenance for his family and children, capitalizing on the increased market activity during the month of Ramadan, only to meet a tragic end.
