Egypt has issued an urgent appeal to Arab nations to activate the concept of "joint Arab national security" to counter the intensifying military escalation across the region, which has been fueled by reciprocal attacks involving the United States and Israel on one side, and Iran on the other, including Iranian strikes targeting Arab states. The call was delivered by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry during an emergency meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers, convened at the invitation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and attended by member states. The primary agenda item was to discuss "Iranian aggressions against Arab states." Shoukry emphasized the necessity of activating collaborative frameworks to effectively manage current threats, specifically proposing the formation of a joint Arab force to safeguard member states and uphold their sovereignty. The Egyptian Minister reaffirmed Cairo's unwavering position condemning all "Iranian aggressions" directed at Arab nations, rejecting any attempts to justify these actions, which he deemed a blatant violation of the principles of good neighborliness and established international law. In a related context, Shoukry stressed the paramount importance of prioritizing dialogue and diplomacy to de-escalate military tensions, warning against the grave risks associated with continued escalation and the necessity of preventing the region from descending into widespread chaos. These Egyptian maneuvers are part of intensive diplomatic efforts recently led by Cairo, which included high-level communications with leaders and foreign ministers of affected countries, in addition to supporting the convening of this emergency session in coordination with Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain. For their part, Arab Foreign Ministers strongly condemned the "Iranian aggressions" that targeted Gulf Arab states, Jordan, and Iraq during the meeting. They characterized these actions as illegal and unprecedented, representing a serious breach of the sovereignty of these nations, undermining regional and international peace and security, and constituting an explicit violation of the United Nations Charter and international humanitarian law. |
