A woman was killed and three others sustained varying degrees of injury on Friday after an individual detonated a hand grenade inside a home in the Al-Khafji neighborhood, south of the Houthi-controlled capital, Sana'a. Local sources indicated that the perpetrator, identified as "Saeed Hamed Mohammed Abdulrahman," who originates from the Raymah Governorate, deliberately threw the explosive device into a gathering of his family members. The resulting blast tragically killed his mother-in-law, identified as "Zahra Ma'ad Al-Hajj Muharram," a resident of the Wasab Al-Ali district in Dhamar, who succumbed to severe wounds. Initial reports suggest the explosion also injured the perpetrator's wife and her brother. The suspect himself sustained shrapnel wounds from the detonation. All injured parties were transported to a local hospital for urgent medical attention, while the deceased victim's body was transferred to the morgue at Al-Thawra General Hospital. Sources further detailed that the assailant initially attempted to shoot his wife directly. However, the intervention of others present, who managed to disarm him, prompted him to detonate a hand grenade he was carrying. This domestic dispute rapidly escalated into a deadly tragedy that shocked the residential area. |
