Yemeni Army Drone Footage Suggests Advanced Tracking Capabilities in Taiz and Mokha

Military expert analysis of recent Yemeni Army drone footage from the Taiz and Mokha fronts near Bab el-Mandeb indicates the potential use of advanced drone platforms capable of target tracking and precision munitions delivery.

The expert, speaking to Sheba Intelligence, stated that the captured footage appears to demonstrate target stabilization technology. This feature allows the drone's surveillance system to automatically identify and continuously track both stationary and moving targets using cameras and sensors, negating the need for constant manual adjustments by ground operators.

The analyst clarified that this tracking capability does not imply automated weapon release. The decision to deploy munitions and the timing of the strike remain separate functions from the target tracking system. The observed capabilities bear resemblance to those found in advanced combat drone systems, including Chinese models such as the CH-4, Wing Loong-3, and Wing Loong-10, as well as the Turkish Bayraktar Akıncı. However, the expert emphasized that similarities in sensor and tracking technology do not definitively confirm the involvement of any specific platform in these strikes.

If the technical interpretation of the footage is accurate, it suggests the deployment of a category of armed drones with capabilities exceeding those of smaller tactical systems previously observed. These platforms reportedly combine extended surveillance, target tracking, and precision-guided munition deployment. The expert noted that, to his knowledge, this class of drone has not been featured in previously published military operation recordings from Taiz and Mokha.

Confirmation of these platforms' use would signify an expansion of air support capabilities available to government forces. This would extend beyond reconnaissance, target identification, and artillery fire correction missions typically performed by smaller tactical drones, to include platforms capable of long-range surveillance and precision strikes.

These indications follow previous Sheba Intelligence reports documenting the Yemeni government forces' utilization of drones for reconnaissance, target acquisition, artillery fire correction, and munition drops on various fronts. These reports have highlighted Chinese platforms like the G50, which appeared to have been modified for combat, and five platforms displayed by the "Shield of the Nation" forces, suggesting a growth in tactical drone capabilities for reconnaissance and ground support.

In a separate report on long-range strike capabilities, Sheba Intelligence identified two drones, designated "Aib al" and "Naqam," as belonging to the Sky Wasp family. The platform reported on September 18th that it had observed their use in airstrikes around Sana'a, based on military sources and analysis of video footage. These unrecoverable, single-use attack drones differ from the reusable, precision-guided munition-equipped drones that the expert believes may have been deployed in recent operations, though this does not constitute a definitive identification of the specific platform used.
