Houthi Forces Dig 20km Trench Near Bab al-Mandab Under IRGC Supervision

Houthi militias, supported by Iran, have commenced the excavation of a trench approximately 20 kilometers long, extending from the Kahbub mountains towards the Bab al-Mandab strait. The project runs along the administrative boundary between the Lahj and Taiz governorates.

Field sources reported that the militia has deployed bulldozers and heavy machinery to begin the excavation work after consolidating control over positions in the vicinity of Bab al-Mandab. These operations are reportedly being conducted under the supervision of experts affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The sources indicated that the trench and newly established fortifications are part of the Houthi efforts to bolster their defensive positions. This initiative aims to impede any potential advance by the Giants Brigades, National Shield forces, and the National Resistance seeking to reclaim coastal areas currently under militia control since September 9th.

According to the sources, the continued delay in military operations and airstrikes against the Houthis provides the militia with additional time to strengthen their field fortifications, dig trenches, and plant mines. This situation is expected to significantly complicate any future military operations to recapture these strategically vital regions.
