Libyan Fatwa Committee Condemns Ex-Mufti's Pro-Houthi Statements

Libya's High Fatwa Committee, affiliated with the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs of the Libyan government, has strongly condemned recent statements made by the dismissed mufti, Al-Sadiq Al-Ghariani, in which he declared support for the Houthi movement.

In an official statement released on Friday, the committee asserted that these reprehensible remarks demonstrate Al-Ghariani's continued efforts to incite sedition and support those it described as deviants. The committee referenced his past endorsements of Kharijites and their alleged corruption, culminating in his current support for what it termed "Rafidis in their war against Sunni Muslims."

The committee emphasized that any aggression against sacred principles constitutes an attack on all Muslims and warned against aligning with those who violate divine boundaries.

Concluding its statement, the High Fatwa Committee reiterated for domestic and international public opinion that Al-Sadiq Al-Ghariani was officially dismissed in 2014 under Law No. 8 issued by the House of Representatives. The committee affirmed its status as the sole legitimate religious authority for issuing fatwas in Libya, noting that Al-Ghariani has continued to impersonate the mufti since his dismissal.
