Houthi Militia Increases Fuel Prices by Up to 21% in Controlled Areas

The Houthi militia has raised the prices of petroleum products in areas under its control, with increases ranging from approximately 16% to 21%. This move is expected to exacerbate the cost of living for residents, coinciding with military escalation and a continued deterioration of the country's economic and humanitarian conditions.

According to the new pricing, the cost of a 20-liter gallon of gasoline has risen by about 16.67%. The price of diesel has seen a more significant increase of approximately 21.05%. These adjustments will increase the expense of fuel, which is essential for transportation, commercial activities, services, and production across the militia-controlled regions.

The price hike occurs at a time when the population is already struggling with declining purchasing power and rising costs for goods and services. The nation faces a worsening economic crisis and a monetary and financial division that directly impacts the lives of millions of Yemenis. Fuel is a critical component in the costs of transportation, production, and the provision of basic services.

The latest increase in fuel prices is anticipated to trigger a wave of inflation across various sectors, particularly transportation and food markets. The cost of transporting goods from production and import points to local markets is directly linked to fuel prices.
