US Embassy Backs Yemeni Government's Right to Self-Defense Against Houthis

The U.S. Embassy in Yemen has placed full responsibility on the Houthi militia for initiating the conflict and escalating crises within the nation, emphasizing the group's accountability for the consequences of its "aggression."

In a statement released on its official X account, the embassy affirmed that the Republic of Yemen possesses the sole legitimate government, holding an inherent and complete right to defend its citizens, safeguard its national security, restore state institutions, and dismantle Houthi capabilities.

Washington also acknowledged the legitimate right of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to defend its territory and citizens, and to support efforts bolstering the legitimate Yemeni government in ending what it described as Houthi terrorism.

The embassy's remarks come amidst ongoing reports of conflict, including a new Houthi plan for a wide-scale offensive on Yemen's west coast, reportedly with Iranian, Lebanese, and Iraqi support. Additionally, the Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights reported that 17 civilians, including children, were killed or injured in Marib, labeling the targeting of displaced persons as a crime requiring accountability.

Recent military developments also include the capture of a prominent Houthi leader in Al-Waz'iyah by Joint Forces following intense clashes, and warnings issued to travelers on the Al-Jubah-Marib road due to escalating armed confrontations.
