Two children were killed and 15 civilians, including eight children, were injured in a ballistic missile attack by the Houthi militia targeting a gathering of displaced people in the Ragwan district of Marib Governorate on Monday evening, the Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights announced on Tuesday.

The ministry stated in a release that the two children, aged seven and five, died as a result of the Houthi attack, which struck a shelter housing civilians displaced from their homes due to the conflict.

The ministry condemned the attack, holding the Houthi militia fully responsible. It emphasized that targeting displaced persons and children constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law and the rules for the protection of civilians during armed conflict.

The ministry characterized the attack as part of a continuous military escalation by the Houthi militia, referencing previous assaults on residential areas, civilian facilities, and military sites in various Yemeni governorates. It added that the ongoing targeting of civilians has led to further casualties and exacerbated displacement, urging the United Nations and relevant international human rights bodies to document the attack, investigate its circumstances, and identify those responsible.

The ministry also called for measures to ensure accountability for perpetrators of violations, asserting that achieving peace in Yemen requires, alongside the political process, the protection of civilians, addressing violations, and guaranteeing accountability.
