Jouf Clashes: Tribal Militiamen and Houthi Forces Exchange Fire Over Land Dispute

Clashes erupted Tuesday between tribal fighters and Houthi militia patrols in Yemen's Jouf province, resulting in casualties on both sides. The confrontation was triggered by allegations that the Houthi militia attempted to seize tribal land near the provincial capital, Al Hazm.

Tribal sources reported that the fighting broke out in the Al Jar region after the Houthi militia allegedly tried to appropriate a piece of land belonging to the Al Saran clan, a branch of the Al Kathir-Hamdan tribe. This move was met with strong resistance from tribal members, escalating into armed conflict involving various weapons and leaving several individuals injured from both factions.

Tensions remain high in the area, with concerns about further escalation. Reports suggest the Houthi militia may be preparing retaliatory actions against the Al Kathir-Hamdan tribes.

The province of Jouf has recently experienced a series of intense clashes between various tribes and Houthi fighters. These incidents have included confrontations between the Al Salem and Dhu Muhammad tribes, the Al Jazeelan and Al Abes tribes, the Al Wahas tribe and Houthi elements, and the Dhu Hussein tribe and Houthi forces. These engagements have resulted in fatalities and injuries, notably the death of Houthi leader and tribal sheikh Abu Radwan Khaled bin Hazzal last Thursday.

Various areas within Jouf province are periodically affected by tribal and security tensions stemming from disputes over land and influence. This instability is exacerbated by the ongoing security vacuum in regions controlled by the Houthi militia.
