Yemen Mobile's telecommunications network in Shabwah Governorate has ceased operation following the severing of the main fiber optic cable supplying the region. The disruption occurred during excavation work related to a service project. Local sources reported that the outage was caused by an excavator from a water project cutting the primary coaxial cable near the "Bin Amer" station, east of the city of Ataq, while undertaking trenching for pipeline installations. This incident resulted in the complete loss of service for subscribers across the governorate. Upon receiving notification of the incident, technical and maintenance teams from the Shabwah Telecommunications Office were immediately dispatched to the site. Their objective is to assess the extent of the damage and formulate a repair strategy. Maintenance engineers are currently working to repair the damaged cable and reconnect the affected line. Service is anticipated to be restored and normalized within the coming hours, according to the sources. This disruption has prompted renewed calls for entities undertaking service projects to coordinate in advance with relevant authorities.
